American Crew 3 in 1 Tea Tree Review: The Product I Didn’t Expect to Like This Much
Written by the styling team at The Warehouse Salon, Fairfield, NJ. Our stylists bring 50+ combined years of behind-the-chair experience helping clients across North Jersey look and feel their best.
After more than twenty years behind the chair, probably closer to twenty-five if I’m being honest, I’ve seen every kind of men’s product out there. Some smell good but do nothing. Some promise miracles. And a few just quietly become that thing every guy should keep in the shower. The American Crew 3 in 1 Tea Tree Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash ended up being one of those.
Full disclosure: we carry a wide range of men's products at The Warehouse Salon in Fairfield, NJ, and we've tested pretty much all of them on ourselves and our clients. Here's our honest take on this product after months of real-world use.
I didn’t think I’d like it. One bottle that’s supposed to do everything usually means it’s average at all of them. But this one caught me off guard.
Okay, So Here’s What I Noticed
The first thing that hit me was the scent. It’s clean and sharp without being heavy. That tea tree gives it a little tingle in the air, kind of like when you open a fresh mint pack. In Florida humidity, everything can feel sticky, so having something that feels cooling is a win.
The bottle itself looks like what you’d expect from American Crew. Simple, dark, professional. I like that it’s easy to open with one hand. I don’t want to wrestle with a slippery cap at six in the morning.

And when you pour it out, it’s thick but not gluey. The texture is smooth, kind of silky between your fingers. No cheap plastic smell either, just that crisp, spa-like scent.
My First Mistake Using It
First time I tried it, I only used it on my hair. I thought, “No way this thing works on the body too.” A week later, I ran out of body wash and figured why not. Turns out I should’ve tested that part first because it’s actually better as a body wash than some of the fancy ones I’ve tried. The tea tree leaves a cooling feel on your skin that’s refreshing but not freezing.
When you rinse it out, you feel that minty tingle on your scalp too. First time, I thought maybe I’d gotten some in my eyes. Nope, that’s just the tea tree doing its thing.
How It Performs
As a shampoo, it’s a strong cleanser. It removes product buildup without that squeaky, over-washed feeling. The scalp feels fresh and clean afterward, which guys love. I’ve had clients tell me it helps after the gym or a long day in the heat.
As a conditioner, it’s lighter than what I’d use in the salon, which, honestly, I wasn’t sure about at first because lighter usually means it won’t do much. But for daily use, it works. Hair feels softer, less frizzy, and easier to style. If you’ve got coarse or dry hair though, you’ll probably want to follow up with a separate conditioner. It’s not going to give that deep hydration some textures need.
And on skin, it’s smooth and clean. No residue, no tightness, no weird film left behind. It rinses off easily and smells great afterward.
I Wasn’t Expecting This
What really surprised me is how balanced it feels. Most three-in-ones overdo it somewhere. This one doesn’t. It cleans without drying and moisturizes without feeling heavy.
That said, it’s not perfect. Here’s my only real gripe, well two actually. The consistency gets thick when you’re near the end, and you end up doing the shake and squeeze routine trying to get the last bit out. Also, if your hair is very dry or coarse, this isn’t enough moisture on its own. Pair it with a richer conditioner if you want to keep things soft.
Still, it’s miles ahead of what I expected from a multi-use product.
Why It Works Here in Florida
Our weather in DeLand is hot and humid most of the year, which means sweat, oil, and buildup happen fast. I’ve found this product holds up better than most in that climate. It keeps the scalp clean and refreshed without over-stripping natural oils.
I had one client who works outdoors every day tell me it’s the first thing he uses when he gets home. Says it “feels like it washes the day off.” I get that. It’s got that cooling, almost clearing feel to it.
My Honest Takeaway
After trying it a few different ways, I’ll say this. The American Crew 3 in 1 Tea Tree isn’t trying to be a luxury salon treatment. It’s a practical, reliable, everyday product that makes sense.
If you want a product that smells good, keeps your hair and skin fresh, and actually saves time in the shower, this is worth it. Just don’t expect miracles if your hair is damaged or chemically treated.

For styling, KMS HairPlay Messing Creme gives a natural, not-trying-too-hard look. Most of our male clients leave the salon with this in their hair.
If your scalp runs dry or flaky, KMS Head Remedy Deep Cleanse Shampoo resets things without the harshness of drugstore dandruff shampoos. Use it once a week alongside your regular shampoo.
And for hold without the crunch, Shibui Sculpting Paste is one of our best sellers. Matte finish, flexible hold, and it rinses out easily.
