Hair Extensions at The Warehouse Salon: Hand-Tied, Tape-In & Beaded Row

If you have been researching hair extensions and you are not sure which method is right for you, you are in the right place. At The Warehouse Salon, we specialize in three extension methods: hand-tied wefts, tape-in extensions, and beaded row extensions. Each method works differently, lasts a different amount of time, and suits a different hair type and lifestyle. We will walk you through what happens at your consultation, what to expect during the installation, and how to decide which method matches your hair goals. Book a consultation to get started, or keep reading to understand your options.

Extensions are not one-size-fits-all. The method that works beautifully for thick, coarse hair might damage fine hair. The method that holds up through daily gym sessions might feel too heavy for someone with a sensitive scalp. Our stylists start every extension consultation by asking about your hair texture, your daily routine, how much time you want to spend on maintenance, and what look you are trying to achieve. That conversation determines which method we recommend.

Why clients choose extensions at The Warehouse Salon

We match the method to your hair, not the other way around. A lot of salons push one extension method because it is what they know. We train in all three methods so we can recommend the one that actually fits your hair type, your scalp sensitivity, and your maintenance tolerance. If your hair is too fine for beaded rows, we will tell you that up front. Our certified extension specialists have over a decade of combined experience installing hand-tied, tape-in, and beaded row extensions, and we match the method to your hair density and lifestyle before we ever pick up a needle.

We source hair that blends with textured hair. If you have natural texture or color-treated hair, finding extensions that blend seamlessly is harder than it sounds. We work with suppliers who carry a range of textures and undertones, and we color-match extensions to your exact base and dimension before installation. No obvious lines, no mismatched shine. Learn more about our color services if you need pre-installation color work to ensure a perfect match.

We teach you how to maintain them so they last. Extensions are an investment, and they only last as long as your at-home care supports them. Before you leave the chair, we walk you through how to wash, dry, brush, and sleep on your extensions without matting, tangling, or stressing the bonds. We also schedule your move-up appointments before you leave so the extensions never grow out past the safe point. Read more about our salon approach to aftercare education.

What to expect

Your first appointment is a consultation. Plan for 30 minutes. We look at your natural hair, talk about the length and volume you want, and decide which method fits your hair type and your lifestyle. If you are adding length, we measure how much hair you need. If you are adding volume, we assess where the thin spots are and how many rows will give you the density you are after. We also go over pricing at this appointment, because the cost depends on how much hair you need and which method you choose.

Installation happens at a separate appointment. Hand-tied wefts take 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Tape-ins take 1.5 to 2 hours. Beaded rows take 2 to 3 hours. You sit in the chair, we section your hair, and we install the extensions row by row. For hand-tied wefts, we braid a narrow section of your natural hair (typically 0.5 to 1 inch wide) and sew a lightweight weft onto the braid using a curved needle and thread. The weft itself is only 1 to 2 millimeters thick at the seam, which keeps it flat against your scalp. For beaded row extensions, we use a slightly thicker weft (2 to 3 millimeters) and secure it with small silicone-lined beads instead of thread. The beads are 3 to 4 millimeters in diameter and sit flat when clamped. For tape-ins, we sandwich a thin section of your hair between two adhesive wefts, each about 1.5 inches wide. The adhesive is medical-grade polyurethane that bonds in seconds and holds for 4 to 6 weeks.

Fine or low-density hair works best with hand-tied wefts because the thin seam and lightweight construction put less tension on the scalp. Medium to thick hair can handle beaded rows or tape-ins without issue. If your hair is very porous or chemically treated, we may recommend hand-tied or beaded methods over tape-ins, because porous hair does not hold adhesive as reliably. The process is quiet work, and most clients scroll their phone or close their eyes while we install.

After installation, we cut and blend the extensions into your natural hair so the layers look seamless. You leave with a full head of hair that moves and falls naturally. We also give you a care kit: the right brush, the right shampoo and conditioner for extensions, and a silk scrunchie for sleeping. You book your first move-up appointment before you leave. Hand-tied and beaded row extensions need a move-up every 6 to 8 weeks. Tape-ins need a move-up every 4 to 6 weeks. The move-up is when we remove the extensions, move them higher on your head to account for your natural hair growth, and reinstall them. The hair itself can be reused 2 to 4 times depending on how well you care for it. Schedule your move-up before you leave so the extensions never overgrow.

Pricing

Extension pricing depends on how much hair you need, which method you choose, and whether you are starting from scratch or moving up existing extensions. The consultation determines your exact quote. See current pricing on our service menu (link when available), or contact us for a ballpark estimate based on your hair goals. Installation includes the hair, the labor, and the care kit. Move-up appointments are priced separately and are typically less than the initial installation because we are reusing the same hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will extensions damage my hair?

Extensions do not damage your hair if they are installed correctly and maintained properly. Damage happens when extensions are too heavy for your hair type, installed too tightly, or left in past the safe move-up window. A set of extensions that weighs more than 150 grams on fine hair (less than 2 inches of natural density) can cause traction alopecia over time. We size the extensions to your hair density and schedule move-ups before your natural hair grows out enough to cause tension or matting.

Can I color my extensions?

You can color human hair extensions, but we recommend coloring them before installation when possible. Once they are in, any color service has to account for both your natural hair and the extension hair, which can complicate the process. If you want to go lighter or darker after your extensions are installed, book a consultation first so we can plan the safest approach.

How do I sleep with extensions?

Braid or loosely tie your hair before bed. Sleeping with extensions loose causes matting at the nape and tangling at the bonds. A loose braid or a low ponytail with a silk scrunchie keeps the hair contained without pulling on the bonds. Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction.

Can I swim with extensions?

You can swim with extensions, but chlorine and salt water dry out the hair and loosen the bonds over time. Daily chlorine exposure can reduce bond life by 30 to 40 percent compared to occasional swimming. Wet your hair with clean water before you swim so it absorbs less pool or ocean water. Braid your hair while you swim. Rinse thoroughly and apply conditioner immediately after swimming. Do not swim daily if you want your extensions to last the full 6 to 8 weeks.

What is the difference between hand-tied and beaded row extensions?

Both methods use a sewn weft attached to a small braid in your natural hair. Hand-tied wefts are thinner (1 to 2 millimeters at the seam) and lighter (typically 60 to 80 grams per full head), which makes them a better fit for fine or medium hair. Beaded row extensions use a slightly thicker weft (2 to 3 millimeters) and weigh 100 to 120 grams per full head, which works well for thick or coarse hair that can support more weight. The application process is similar, but the weft construction and weight distribution are different.

How long do extensions last before I need to replace the hair?

Human hair extensions can be moved up and reused 2 to 4 times if you care for them properly. That means you get 4 to 10 months of wear from one set of hair, depending on how many move-ups the hair can handle before it starts to shed or thin. After that, you replace the hair and start fresh.
