Your Summer Hair Doesn’t Need Heat — Just These No-Fuss Tricks
Your Summer Hair Doesn't Need Heat, Just These No-Fuss Tricks
If the thought of blow-drying or flat ironing in 90-degree weather makes you sweat, you're not alone. In the middle of summer, adding more heat to your hair routine just doesn't make sense.
The good news? You don't need heat to have great hair this summer. At The Warehouse Salon in Fairfield, NJ, we're all about keeping it cool, literally. These heat-free styling tricks save you time, protect your strands, and keep your look fresh without frying your hair in the process.
1. Master the Air-Dry Scrunch
After washing, gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel (regular towels cause frizz). Apply a curl-enhancing product like Aluram Curl Cream or Milk Shake Curl Passion Leave In Spray, then scrunch your hair upward. Let it air dry completely. The result is relaxed, beachy waves without touching a single hot tool.
This works especially well for wavy and curly textures, and we recommend it to clients at our Fairfield salon all summer long.
2. Braid It and Forget It
One of the easiest heat-free techniques is braiding damp hair and letting it dry naturally. A loose French braid gives you soft waves. Two Dutch braids give you tighter, more defined texture. The tighter the braid, the more wave you get.
Apply a lightweight leave-in like Milk Shake Leave In Conditioner before braiding for added moisture and frizz control. Take the braids out when your hair is fully dry and shake it out. Done.
3. Twist and Pin for Volume
Section your damp hair into 4-6 sections, twist each one, and pin it up with clips. Let it dry naturally, then unpin and tousle with your fingers. This gives you volume and movement at the root without any heat.
4. Embrace the Bun
A loose, messy bun is one of the best summer looks and it takes 30 seconds. Pull your hair up, twist, secure with a clip or silk scrunchie, and pull a few face-framing pieces out. Add a Shibui Texturizing Mist for some grip and texture if your hair is too slippery to hold the style.
5. Dry Shampoo Is Your Summer Best Friend
Between the humidity and sweat, summer hair gets oily faster. Instead of washing (and heat-styling) more often, use a good dry shampoo to stretch your washes. IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo absorbs oil and adds volume without leaving white residue. Spray it at the roots, wait a minute, then massage it in.
Our clients in North Jersey go through a lot of this stuff from June through September. It's a game changer for second and third-day hair.
6. Protect Your Hair From the Sun
Just like your skin, your hair takes damage from UV exposure. Sun-exposed hair gets dry, brittle, and loses color faster. Here's how to protect it:
- Wear a hat when you're going to be outside for extended periods
- Use a leave-in with UV protection
- Rinse your hair with fresh water before and after swimming (chlorine and salt water are both harsh on hair)
- Deep condition weekly during summer. Oligo Blacklight Intensive Replenishing Mask restores moisture lost to sun and water exposure
7. Get a Summer-Friendly Cut
The right haircut makes heat-free styling so much easier. Layers and textured cuts air-dry better than blunt, heavy cuts. If you're thinking about a summer chop, come see us at The Warehouse Salon in Fairfield and we'll find a cut that works with your natural texture, not against it.
Skip the Heat. Keep the Style.
Summer is supposed to be easy, and your hair routine should be too. With the right products and techniques, you can look put-together all season without reaching for a blow dryer or flat iron once. That's more time at the beach and less time in front of the mirror.
