Types of Products Available

First of all, it's important to understand the different types of hair products available on the market. There are oil-based products and water-based products, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Oil-based products are great for adding shine and nourishing dry hair, but they can also be heavy and weigh your hair down and are not meant to be overused. Water-based products, on the other hand, are lightweight and great for adding volume, hydration and definition to curls, but they may not be as moisturizing as oil-based products. However, if you are properly hydrating your curls or hair in general, you do not need to add extra oils!

Finding The Right Product

When it comes to finding the right products for your hair type, it's important to consider your hair's unique needs. Let's break down some suggestions for different hair types. When looking for your hair type it is important to consider the ingredients going into your hair. Feel free to check out my blog called Which Ingredients to Avoid

Curly & Textured Hair

If you have curly hair, you may want to look for products specifically designed for curly hair, as these will be formulated to enhance your natural curls and reduce frizz. It's also a good idea to pay attention to the ingredients in your products, as some ingredients can be more beneficial for certain hair types than others. So, how can you find the right products for your hair type?
For curly hair, it's all about hydration and definition. Ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, and argan oil are great for adding moisture and nourishing curls. These ingredients help reduce frizz and promote healthy, defined curls. It is important to use oils and butters minimally to avoid overuse and buildup. Find shampoos that have some oils built in them, so you do not lean to something purely oil based.

It is better to consider, products with glycerin and aloe vera to help attract and retain moisture in curly hair, keeping it hydrated and bouncy. Hydration is always before moisturizing; I will be writing a blog explaining the difference!

Other ingredients like quinoa extract, flaxseed oil, and shea butter can help nourish and define curls. Quinoa extract is a protein-rich ingredient that helps to repair and protect hair, while flaxseed oil is a natural emollient that can help to soften hair and reduce frizz. Shea butter is also an excellent emollient and can help to provide moisture to dry, frizzy curls.

These ingredients are most likely in various shampoos available on the market, so there is no need to have additional products that are overloaded with oils and butters, remember to product test and find a balance of moisture and hydration!

I know this is a lot of information, but I am here to help! Here are some suggestions to start with!

Fine Hair

When it comes to fine hair, it's important to look for lightweight products that won't weigh down your hair. Ingredients like keratin, biotin, and panthenol can help strengthen and add volume to fine hair. These ingredients work by bonding to the hair shaft, making it thicker and more resilient. Additionally, products with amino acids can help nourish and protect fine hair from damage. Just keep in mind to find a balance between using hydrating and protein-based products to avoid an overload of one particular product or ingredient. We all need a balance of protein and hydration!

Ingredients like hydrolyzed wheat protein, silk protein, and keratin can help strengthen hair strands and add volume without weighing them down. These proteins can penetrate the hair shaft to strengthen and fortify it, which can help reduce breakage and promote healthy growth. Of course, these ingredients are used in balance with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid. and panthenol (vitamin B5).  These ingredients may be in different products so it would be beneficial to alternate at least two types of shampoos with these suggested ingredients. Here are some awesome suggestions to try out!

Dry & Damaged Hair

For dry, damaged hair, it's important to look for products with ingredients that can restore moisture and repair damage. Ingredients like jojoba oil, avocado oil, and honey can help nourish and hydrate dry hair. Products with keratin, collagen, and biotin can help strengthen and repair damaged hair, reducing breakage and promoting healthy growth.

Other ingredients like hydrolyzed collagen, biotin, and panthenol can help to restore moisture and repair damage. Hydrolyzed collagen is a protein that can help to strengthen and repair hair, while biotin and panthenol are B-vitamins that can help to nourish hair and prevent breakage. These ingredients can also help to improve the overall health and appearance of damaged hair. Here are some starter options!
