5 Worst Things to Do to Your Hair
When it comes to hair care, there are plenty of do's and don'ts. However, not all hair care practices are created equal. In fact, some seemingly harmless habits could be doing more harm than good to your precious locks. As a hair care enthusiast, I want to share with you the 5 worst things you could be doing to your hair that could be causing damage and preventing you from achieving luscious, healthy tresses. So, let's dive in and learn how to avoid these common hair care mistakes.
1. Overusing Hot Tools
It's no secret that heat styling tools like flat irons, curling irons, and hair dryers can work wonders in transforming your hair into beautiful styles. However, excessive use of these tools can wreak havoc on your hair. The high heat can strip your hair of its natural moisture, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. To avoid this, try limiting the use of heat styling tools to special occasions and always use a heat protectant spray before styling. Opt for air drying or using heat-free styling methods like curling with rollers or braiding for a more natural and less damaging approach to styling your hair. Another tool to be aware of when it comes to damage is the revlon brush. Read more about it in my article:
2. Skipping Regular Trims
Many people avoid getting regular trims in an attempt to grow their hair longer. However, skipping regular trims can actually hinder hair growth in the long run. Split ends and damaged hair tips can travel up the hair shaft, causing further breakage and damage. Regular trims every 6-8 weeks can help to prevent split ends from traveling up the hair shaft and promote healthy hair growth. Remember, healthy ends are crucial for maintaining overall hair health, so don't skimp on those trims! I know some of us, even myself dread haircuts, but it is super important to keep up with those split ends! If you want to know how often you should cut your hair, read my blog.

3. Over Washing or Using Harsh Shampoos
Washing your hair is essential to maintain scalp health and remove dirt and excess oils. However, over washing your hair or using harsh shampoos can strip your hair and scalp of their natural oils, leaving them dry and brittle. This can lead to dryness, frizz, and even scalp issues like dandruff. To avoid this, try washing your hair every 2-3 days, or as needed based on your hair type and lifestyle. Also, opt for gentle, sulfate-free shampoos that won't strip your hair of its natural oils, and always follow up with a nourishing conditioner to restore moisture. When you are tempted to wash it, just throw it in a ponytail for the day or add a little dry shampoo (not too much).

4. Brushing Wet Hair Too Roughly
Wet hair is more fragile and prone to breakage compared to dry hair. Brushing your hair when it's wet can cause unnecessary tension on the hair shaft, leading to breakage and damage. Instead, use a wide-toothed comb or a detangling brush with flexible bristles to gently remove tangles from your hair when it's damp. Start from the ends and work your way up to the roots to minimize damage. Use my guide on how to brush your hair properly!

5. Not Knowing What You Are Doing!
If you love experimenting with different hair colors, perms, or other chemical treatments, be very cautious. Using too many harsh chemicals can weaken the hair shaft, making it more prone to damage and breakage. Always follow the instructions provided by the product manufacturer and consider consulting with a professional stylist for complex chemical treatments. Also, give your hair a break from styling treatments and let it breathe naturally to minimize damage.
