2025 Prom Hair Trends: Because Basic is NOT an Option

Prom season is right around the corner, and if you're still thinking about just curling your hair and calling it a day, we need to talk. The trends for 2025 are all about personality, and at The Warehouse Salon in Fairfield, NJ, we've been helping North Jersey prom-goers stand out for years.

Here are the looks we're seeing the most requests for this season, plus how to make each one work for YOUR hair.

    1. Old Hollywood Waves

Think red carpet glamour. Deep side part, smooth S-shaped waves pinned behind one ear. This look is timeless, elegant, and photographs incredibly well (which matters when you're going to be in a million pictures).

Best for: Medium to long hair, any texture. Works beautifully on straight and wavy hair.

How we style it: We use a 1.25-inch curling iron, curl everything in the same direction, then brush the curls out and pin them into waves. The Milk Shake Lifestyling Blow-Dry Primer gives us that ultra-smooth base, and we finish with the Oligo Blacklight Volumizing Shine Hairspray for hold and shine.

    2. Bubble Braids and Ponytails

This one's been trending on TikTok and it's not going anywhere. A high ponytail or braid sectioned off with elastics to create "bubbles" down the length. It's playful, modern, and looks way more complicated than it actually is.

Best for: Long hair. The more length you have, the more bubbles you get.

Pro tip: Pull each section out gently to puff it up. The bigger the bubbles, the better the look.

    3. Soft Updo with Face-Framing Pieces

The "messy bun but make it prom" look is huge this year. It's a loose, romantic updo with strategically pulled-out pieces around the face and nape of the neck. It looks effortless but requires real skill to get right.

Best for: Medium to long hair, especially wavy and curly textures. Curly-haired clients, this one was MADE for you.

How we approach it: We start with texture. A spray like the Oligo Texture Spray gives hair grip so the updo holds without being stiff. Then we pin section by section and pull pieces out until it looks perfectly undone.

    4. Sleek Low Bun

Clean, minimal, sophisticated. The sleek low bun is for the client who wants to look polished without being over-the-top. It's giving model-off-duty meets Met Gala, and we're here for it.

Best for: All hair lengths (chin-length and up). Straight and wavy textures work best.

The secret weapon: A good blow-dry primer and a strong-hold gel. We smooth everything back, twist it into a low knot, and secure it. No flyaways, no frizz, just clean lines.

    5. Half-Up With Volume

The half-up, half-down look with major volume at the crown is having a moment. Think Brigitte Bardot meets 2025. The top section is teased for height and pulled back, while the bottom stays down in loose waves or curls.

Best for: All hair lengths. This is one of the most versatile prom styles.

Volume hack: The KMS Add Volume Styling Foam at the roots before blow-drying gives you that lift at the crown without making your hair feel crunchy or heavy.

When to Book Your Prom Hair Appointment

Here's the thing: prom appointments fill up FAST. Especially on the weekends of junior and senior prom. If your prom is in May or June, you should be booking in March or April at the latest. We see clients from Fairfield, Caldwell, Wayne, Montclair, and all over North Jersey, and our prom slots go quickly.

We always recommend a trial run before prom day. Come in 2 to 3 weeks before the event and we'll do a practice run of your style. That way there are no surprises on the big night, and you know exactly what to expect.

    Don't Forget the Products

For day-of hair prep, the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo at the roots gives great texture and volume. And always, always use heat protection. The Milk Shake Lifestyling Thermo-Protector keeps your hair safe while we create your look.
